A study was carried out to examine the changes in soil chemical properties and crop yields in a area of Asma village of Valsad district (Gujarat). The result showed that the mean values of soil pH and EC were increased with time. Although, average values of organic carbon, available P and available K were decreased year by year. Also difference between maximum and minimum values of soil pH, EC, organic carbon, available P and available K become larger with time due to greatly different in fertilizer application between farmers. Though the yields of crops were increased with cultivation of hybrid varieties but the changes in soil nutrient status have shown there might be need to improve soil management with application of organic and biofertilisers to sustain the fertility of the soil.Keywords

We present the development of a cerium-doped lanthanum bromide (LaBr3 : Ce) gamma-ray spectrometer (GRS) with the primary objective of determining the abundance and distribution of Th, U, K, and other major elements, including Fe on the entire planetary surface by measuring gamma-ray signals produced by radioactive decay, neutron inelastic scattering and neutron capture reactions in the energy region 0.03- 8 MeV. The energy resolution of the LaBr3 : Ce GRS developed in-house using front-end and processing electronics at 511 and 1274 keV is estimated to be 4.1% and 2.5% respectively. The intrinsic activity count rate for our 3n * 3n LaBr3 : Ce GRS is ~61 counts s-1 (i.e. ~0.18 counts s-1 cm-3) for the 40K energy window (1400-1520 keV) and ~3.4 counts s-1 for the 232Th (2550-2700 keV) energy window. Although this large intrinsic activity of the LaBr3 : Ce crystal inhibits estimation of the concentrations of Th and K, our attempts using a NaI(Tl) GRS (with electronics developed in-house) were more successful. The Th concentration of US-110 was estimated to be ~11.4 ppm and is within 14% of the 13.2 ppm value determined using a HPGe GRS. The K concentration of US-110 was estimated to be 0.87% and is within ~10% of the 0.78% value determined independently using a HPGe GRS.Keywords

A study was undertaken to assess the socio economic status of tribal farm women as influenced by village milk cooperatives in Valsad district of Gujarat state. Women administered primary village milk cooperatives are nucleus for multifarious activities related from milk production to its marketing and thereby very much concerned for socioeconomic development of tribal farm women in the district. The members of village milk cooperative societies with high education, large family size, higher land holding, large herd size, higher annual income, more social participation, high risk orientation and more extension contact led to higher socioeconomic status in the village society.Keywords

The study was conducted in Valsad district of Gujarat state with 200 respondents (100 trained and equal number of untrained farmers). The finding reports that the knowledge score was significantly higher for trained farmers as compared to untrained farmers. There was a significant difference between trained and untrained farmers in respect of adoption level of tribal dairy farmers for green fodder production technologies. Thus, it can be concluded that training has played important role in increasing knowledge and rate of adoption of green fodder production technologies.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted during Rabi season in year 2007-2008 on light textured soils of Regional Research Station, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University. Results of the experiment revealed that yield attributes like plant height, no. of primary and secondary branches plant-1, no. of siliqua plant-1, no. of seeds silique-1 and test weight were recorded significantly higher with application of 60 kg S ha-1 (S4) but it was at par with the 45 kg S ha-1 (S3) and 30 kg S ha-1 (S2) levels in case of no. of primary and secondary branches plant-1 as well as found at par with 45 kg S ha-1 (S3) for no. of siliqua plant-1, no. of seeds silique-1 and test weight. The significantly higher seed yield was recorded with the application of sulphur @ 60 kg ha-1 (S4) and higher straw yield was recorded with S fertilization @ 45 kg ha-1 (S3) which was at par with 60 kg S ha-1 (S4) and 30 kg S ha-1 (S2) levels. The per cent increase in seed yield under S4, S3, S2, and S1 was 45.03, 44.92, 41.10 and 23.08 over control.Keywords

Objective: To determine the thermal performance of pin fin and a generalised formula is evolved for accurate prediction of thermal performance under various conditions. Methods: Thermal performance for a pin fin under different combination of heat dissipation, air flow and different material is carried out. Based on the experimental investigation a generalised formula using multiple regression analysis is evolved. Findings: We concluded that copper is best material from thermal performance point of view. Variation of efficiency and effectiveness of fins was also noted. Generalised equation for Ɵ/ Ɵ0 is developed. Novelty: Developing generalised formula through multiple regression analysis method gives accurate prediction of thermal performance under various conditions.References
